What this tool does
CSV to JSON Converter
Your input is sent to the server for this request and is not saved as a tool content record. Infrastructure logs may still record request metadata, so do not submit secrets.
Choose the delimiter used by the source, keep a clean header row, and convert each data row into a JSON object. Review quoted delimiters and empty cells before using the output in an API or import.

FAQ
CSV to JSON FAQ
How does CSV to JSON use the header row?
The first CSV row is commonly treated as field names and each later row becomes a JSON object using those names as keys. If the file has no headers, the converter needs generated names or a separate schema.
Can I convert a CSV file that has no header row?
Yes if the converter supports headerless input or lets you provide field names. Otherwise the first data row may incorrectly become the JSON property names.
How are commas inside a CSV value handled?
A comma inside a value should be enclosed in a quoted field according to normal CSV rules. A real CSV parser understands quoted delimiters, while simply splitting every line on commas will produce incorrect columns.
Can CSV fields contain line breaks?
Yes when the field is properly quoted. Multiline fields are valid in common CSV formats, but the parser must understand quoted records rather than treating every newline as a new row.
Will CSV numbers automatically become JSON numbers?
That depends on the converter. Some tools keep every value as a string to avoid accidental type changes, while others infer numbers, booleans, or null. Check the output before sending it to an API with strict schemas.
What is the difference between an empty CSV field and JSON null?
An empty field is not automatically the same as null. The converter may output an empty string, null, omit the property, or apply a configured rule, so the desired semantics should be chosen explicitly.
What happens if the CSV has duplicate column headers?
Duplicate headers are ambiguous because a JSON object cannot safely represent two different values under the same key without a special rule. Rename the headers or use a converter that disambiguates duplicates before conversion.
Can CSV to JSON handle semicolon or tab delimited files?
Some converters allow a custom delimiter, but a standard CSV tool may assume commas. Confirm the delimiter before conversion, especially for files exported from regional spreadsheet settings.
Why do accented or non English characters look wrong after conversion?
The source CSV encoding may have been interpreted incorrectly. UTF 8 is the most portable choice for web workflows, but older files may use Windows or regional encodings that must be decoded correctly first.
Can CSV be converted directly into nested JSON?
A flat CSV naturally maps to flat objects. Creating nested objects or arrays usually requires naming conventions, grouping rules, or a second transformation step because the CSV itself does not describe hierarchy.
